Usage Guide

  1. Handcrafted Character Our handmade Moroccan tiles are a testament to handcrafted artistry. These 100% handmade clay tiles bear small imperfections that add to their rustic charm, such as minor cracks and chips. These unique variations are not considered defects but rather the hallmark of authenticity. Each tile is a work of art, lovingly crafted for your project.
  2. Natural Variations Embrace the beauty of natural imperfections. Our tiles are made by skilled artisans in Fes, Morocco, ensuring that no two tiles are exactly alike. These tiles are not mass-produced but individually crafted for your unique project. It exhibits distinctive characteristics that are a testament to their handmade craftsmanship:
  • Chips and Surface Imperfections: Chips occasionally reveal the clay beneath or surface imperfections, enhancing the tile’s rustic charm.
  • Dips in Surface: Some tiles may feature slight dips in their surface, adding to their unique, handcrafted appeal.
  • Varied Thickness: Each tile may vary slightly in thickness, contributing to the uniqueness of every piece.
  • Varied Tile Edges: Expect variations in tile edges, as each tile is individually crafted, contributing to their authentic character.
  • Colour Variations: Tiles may exhibit slight variations in colour between pieces, a hallmark of their handmade nature.
  • Epoxy Resin Presence: Some tiles may display epoxy resin from the back to the front of mosaic tiles, showcasing the tile’s construction.
  • Ink or Pen Marks: Occasional ink or pen marks may be found on the glaze, reflecting the artisanal creation process.
  • Exposed Clay: The clay beneath the tile’s surface may occasionally be exposed, adding to the tile’s individuality.

These distinctive features, which include chips revealing the clay beneath, surface imperfections, dips in the tile surface, varied tile edges, occasional ink or pen marks on the glaze, epoxy resin presence, colour variations, exposed clay, and varied thickness, are not considered defects. Instead, they are valued characteristics that celebrate the artisanal, handmade nature of our handmade Moroccan tiles.

  1. Shade Variations: All kiln-fired clay products exhibit shade variations. The tiles you receive may differ slightly from the showroom sample or display. This is entirely normal and adds to the unique appeal of our handmade Moroccan tiles. 
  2. Floor Application: Our handmade Moroccan tiles are suitable for residential floors with light traffic. Like handmade terracotta, they may require special care depending on usage. For floors, we recommend cleaning with a damp mop and mild soap. Avoid abrasive products with bleach, ammonia, or paint thinner. Never use rough materials that could harm the tile surface. Please note that slip resistance may vary from tile to tile due to their handmade nature.
  3. Exterior Use: Our handmade Moroccan tiles are suitable for external applications but be mindful of potential fading with prolonged sun exposure. Use them outdoors at your discretion.
  4. Wet Applications: Our handmade Moroccan tiles are ideal for wet areas like shower walls and floors, steam showers, and saunas. For submerged water applications, such as pools and fountains, we recommend using a waterproof membrane. Installation in these areas is at your discretion. It’s advisable to apply an additional sealant layer to unglazed tiles and to reseal them annually for longevity.
  5. Freeze-Thaw Considerations: Avoid laying tiles in areas (indoors or outdoors) with extended freezing temperatures. Tiles exposed to such conditions may be susceptible to damage. Please be cautious. ZELLAUS will not be responsible for damages due to these conditions.
  6. Tile Installer Responsibilities: We assume that your tile installer is adequately insured and experienced. We do not accept responsibility for tile damages due to improper or faulty installation methods. It’s crucial to discuss your project’s design and expectations with your installer. We’re happy to provide guidance to your chosen installer regarding specifications.
  7. Countertop Use: While you may use our handmade Moroccan tiles on kitchen countertops or working surfaces, please exercise caution. We will not be responsible for damages caused by liquid spills’ acidity or excessive heat from cooking utensils. Keep in mind that these tiles are not completely flat surfaces, and some mosaic selections may not be practical for countertops.

Returns, Cancellations & Inspections

  1. Returns & Inspections: Once tiles are installed, they are considered accepted for shade, quality, type, and size. Claims will not be accepted after tiles have been fixed. It’s your responsibility, or that of your representatives, to thoroughly inspect deliveries upon receipt. Ensure that received tiles match your order and are undamaged. All damage claims must be made within five (5) business days of receiving the goods.

Tile Installation & Maintenance

  1. Sealing Tiles: To ensure the longevity and performance of your tiles, we strongly recommend applying an appropriate sealant upon installation. Please reach out to our team for sealant suggestions tailored to your specific tile selection. Always follow the product instructions and conduct a test application on unused tiles or in an inconspicuous area to evaluate the desired effect and ease of application.
  2. Glue and Installation: For adhesive recommendations suitable for your chosen tiles, please consult our team. We cannot be held responsible for any issues arising from improper installation methods. This includes, but is not limited to:
  • Unlevelled substrate leading to tile cracking due to movement.
  • Unsealed substrate causing moisture infiltration from beneath the tiles.
  • Incorrect sealant or adhesive usage.

Ensure thorough communication with your chosen tile installer regarding your project’s design and expectations.

Tiles Cleaning & Maintenance

  1. Treat your tiles as a natural material and avoid harsh abrasive cleaners. Opt for a pH-neutral cleaner, typically suitable for natural stone and terrazzo floors. Never use abrasive cleaners, chemicals, or bleach, as they may impact the natural colour pigments over time. Prior to using any cleaner, refer to the product instructions and conduct a test cleaning on unused tiles or in an inconspicuous area to assess the desired outcome and ease of application.

Cleaning and Maintenance Responsibility Disclaimer

  1. ZELLAUS assumes no responsibility for damages caused by the use of abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, or other aggressive cleaning products. Furthermore, we are not liable for any crazing, cracking, or chipping of the tiles.

Ordering and Payment

  1. All orders must be submitted in writing, with the quote dated and signed. You can place orders online at www.ZELLAUS.com or send them via email to info@ZELLAUS.com.
  2. Order acceptance is conditional upon:
  • For orders under 10 sqm: Full payment is required.
  • For orders exceeding 10 sqm: A 50% deposit is due before the order, with the final 50% payment 5 working days before the anticipated site arrival. Payment of the deposit constitutes acceptance of these terms and conditions.

Production will not commence until the full payment amount has been received.

Refunding Policy and Reporting Damages

  1. Customers are urged to make selections with care, as ZELLAUS does not offer refunds. Claims for damaged or faulty goods must be reported to info@ZELLAUS.com within two days of receiving the items.

Square Meter Calculations

18. ZELLAUS cannot assist in calculating the square meter (SQM) areas required, ZELLAUS is not responsible for incorrect calculations.

Wastage Recommendation

19. ZELLAUS recommends including a minimum of 10-15% wastage for each order, depending on the tile type.

Storage and Freight Site

  1. ZELLAUS offers freight services to your site, and this option will be invoiced with your tile purchase. However, please note that we use third-party warehouses that do not allow private client collections due to safety concerns.
  2. Clients can choose to arrange their own freight via a registered courier, in which case a $60 warehouse picking fee will apply. Once goods are ready for collection, the warehouse will store them for two days free of charge. Subsequently, storage fees will apply, which ZELLAUS will pass directly on to the client.

Transfer of Ownership and Liability After Courier Collection

  1. Following collection by a client-engaged courier from the logistics warehouse, ZELLAUS bears no responsibility for the condition of the tiles, as ownership has transferred to the client. Any damages occurring from this point onward are not ZELLAUS’s responsibility.

Post-Delivery Liability Disclaimer

  1. ZELLAUS is not liable for breakages or damages occurring after the delivery of goods in good condition. Delays in delivery following the departure of orders from our facilities in Morocco due to uncontrollable circumstances are beyond our responsibility.

Disclaimer

27. In the rare event of product failure, ZELLAUS will repair and/or replace the affected area of the materials, not exceeding the original square-meter cost of the defective portion. Claims must be submitted before tear-out and re-installation begins. We are not responsible for material failures resulting from use over a damaged, defective, or improperly prepared surface, or in areas where installation is not recommended. This warranty specifically excludes coverage for regular wear and tear, cracking resulting from structural shifts, excessive deflections, or damage caused by weather, flooding, fire, or unforeseeable natural events.
